Massachusetts State Auditor Suzanne Bump is planning to seek re-election in 2018. The Democrat made the announcement Tuesday to quell speculation she might leave her post to run the two businesses her husband Paul McDevitt owned and operated before his death from cancer last month.Bump says even before her husband received his terminal diagnosis, he had been preparing his successor.

Bump says she is now owner and sole director of both businesses, Modern Assistance Programs, Inc., and MAP Test, Inc., but will have no role in their day-to-day operations.

She has named the firms' executive vice president as president and chief executive officer.

Bump says her ownership of the mental health and substance abuse treatment companies poses no conflict of interest given the private sector nature of the work.
