Lenox Public Schools To Shutter Buildings Until January

Nov 20, 2020

The Lenox, Massachusetts public schools are suspending in-person teaching until January 19th, 2021.

Superintendent William Cameron says the move comes as COVID-19 rates increase around the region ahead of the holiday season.

“We know everybody is not a rule-follower. Everybody will not tell us whether they’re travelling," he told WAMC. "Everybody will not quarantine if they come back from places that are hotspots, which is almost the entire United States, to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.”

Cameron is also concerned about the district’s ability to perform required contact tracing, which he says could break down due to the number of students expected to travel.

The district has nearly 800 students.
