Lawyer: Fatal Shooting Of Vermont Man Was Justified

The lawyer representing the policeman who fatally shot a Vermont man says he expects his client will be cleared.

The Burlington Free Press reported (http://bfpne.ws/2dFPTN7 ) that the lawyer's client plans to continue his law enforcement career.

State police say Franklin County deputy sheriff Nicholas Palmier shot 29-year-old Jesse Beshaw six times and grazed him with a seventh shot on Sept. 16 in Winooski after the unarmed suspect advanced on him.

Public records show Palmier was let go from the Winooski Police Department in 2010 and the St. Albans Police Department two years later.

The officer's attorney, Craig Nolan, said that the Winooski department had dismissed Palmier before his probationary period was up. Nolan said that St. Albans had agreed to allow Palmier to resign and destroy his termination letter.
