Lawmakers Talk With Charter Spectrum To Bring WWLP-22 Back To Western Mass.

Facebook: Spectrum

Charter Spectrum dropped Springfield’s NBC affiliate in April. Now, Western Massachusetts lawmakers are trying to restore it.

State Senate President Stan Rosenberg and state Senator Adam Hinds will meet with Charter Spectrum Tuesday in hopes of restoring WWLP-22 to Western Massachusetts.

Charter cites overlapping coverage areas as the reason for cutting three Berkshire cable systems from its lineup. Berkshire County is in the coverage area of NBC affiliate WNYT in Albany.

Opponents say the plan has severed 16 Berkshire County municipalities from state and Boston cable television news.

The Berkshires still gets other Massachusetts stations like WSHM CBS 3 and WGBY PBS by Charter.
