Lawmakers Call For Proposed Rail Study To Be Extended To Berkshires

Office of Senator Adam Hinds
The Joint Committee on Transportation holds a public hearing in Room A-1 of the State House, where testimony was received on S. S. 1935, An Act to study the feasibility of high-speed rail access between Springfield and Boston.

The Berkshire County state legislative delegation is calling for a proposed east-west rail study to be expanded to Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

State Senator Eric Lesser, a Longmeadow Democrat, has a bill being discussed by the Joint Committee on Transportation for a feasibility study on high-speed rail between Springfield and Boston.

State Representative Tricia Farley-Bouvier, a Pittsfield Democrat, was among the Berkshire lawmakers who submitted testimony Tuesday saying it doesn’t go far enough.

“Just as Senator Lesser believes that it will be good for economic development and quality of life for the Springfield, Pioneer Valley area, we believe that the Berkshires cannot be left behind,” Farley-Bouvier says.

A different proposal for rail service between Pittsfield and New York City is being considered.
