Latimer Defeats Astorino For Westchester County Executive

WAMC, Allison Dunne

After a hotly contested race, Democratic New York state Senator George Latimer defeated incumbent Republican Rob Astorino for Westchester County executive. Astorino’s campaign team attributed the loss to a wave of dissatisfaction with the Donald Trump presidency.

Astorino, who was seeking a third term, delivered a brief concession speech well after Latimer declared victory.

“George and I have been friends for quite a long time, and served together as well. And in the heat of an election, we’re glad we’re at this point. Now we can go back to being friends,” Astorino says. “And I look forward to working with him and his team to ensure a very smooth transition in January.”

And here’s Latimer.

“I’m glad the election’s over, too. We both worked very hard, and only the two warriors in the ring can really appreciate how hard it is,” says Latimer. “But I look forward to working with him in the transition and going forward from there.”
