With people observing International Women's Day, a mid-day rally is being held in New York's Capital Region to stave off a deportation.
The Columbia County Sanctuary Movement plans to accompany Elsa Martinez for a 12:30 p.m. check-in at the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Latham, where will they will ask Homeland Security not to deport her, but to work with her on her pending status. According to the group's Facebook page, Martinez has five U.S.-born children, all of whom attended Hudson High School. She also has one grandson she helps care for. Activists say her passport was taken away from her at her during a previous check-in.
