After meeting with Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, Dontay Ivy’s family is dissatisfied with her initial response to their list of demands.
Calling for "consequences and clear action" on the mayor's part, the Ivys say their November 30 deadline still stands, after Sheehan "outright refused to consider" five of their six demands. The family of the Albany man who died after being tasered in a confrontation with Albany police in April want chief Brendan Cox fired along with the three officers who they say contributed to Ivy's death. The 39-year old African American man was stopped frisked and tazed on an Arbor Hill street back in April. He was a schizophrenic with a heart condition. The family issued a statement, saying in part the mayor's actions so far have made "impossible for our community to engage in healing."
A call to the mayor's office was not immediately returned. A grand jury did not hand up any charges related to Ivy’s death.
