New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Thursday announced three schools in the Hudson Valley that will be included in a second round of funding as part of state’s community schools initiative.
Two of the three schools are in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District – South Middle School and Newburgh Free Academy. The third is the Peekskill City School District in Westchester County. Each is awarded a $500,000 grant over three years. The New York State Community Schools Initiative aims to transform schools in distressed communities into hubs addressing a wide range of support services for children and their families including health care, counseling, nutrition, and job preparation services.
