The New York State Senate Majority Coalition Monday announced the formation of a joint task force on heroin and the opioid addition. The Hudson Valley is represented via the vice chair, and three members.

The bipartisan task force will examine the rise in use of heroin and other opioids in New York. Senator David Carlucci, an Independent Democrat from Rockland County, will serve as vice chair. He says instead of turning a blind eye to the heroin epidemic spreading throughout the state, the task force will help kick start the development and implementation of prevention and treatment options. The task force will hold forums across the state to solicit input from stakeholders and experts and use the information to develop recommendations for legislative action. The first forum will take place in April in Suffolk County, home to the chair of the task force, Republican Senator Phil Boyle. Additional members of the joint task force include three Republicans from the Hudson Valley - Senators Greg Ball, John Bonacic, and William Larkin.
