As college classes are set to begin across the Hudson Valley, students got settled in over the weekend.

Returning students, about 425 freshmen and 140 transfer students moved into Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh on Sunday.

More than 50 percent of incoming freshmen are studying for a career in healthcare, particularly nursing and pre-professional programs.  Others are studying teacher education with nearly 14 percent of the freshmen majoring in childhood and adolescent education.

Across the Hudson in Marist College in Poughkeepsie, the Class of 2019, comprised of some 1,200 students, moved in over the weekend as well.

This year’s class includes 40 members from abroad, including from Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Italy, Somalia and Sweden.

Students this fall will see a new science and allied health building, which is scheduled to open in January 2016, and the early stages of the first, two-building phase of the new North Campus housing project, which will provide 465 additional beds starting in the fall 2016 semester.
