Hudson Valley Lawmaker Joins Group Of Republicans Calling On Skelos To Step Down

A Hudson Valley State Senator has joined a group of Republican lawmakers calling on Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos to step down.

Freshman Senator Terrence Murphy of New York’s 40th District told Gannett Newspapers Saturday Skelos should relinquish his leadership position, “in order to properly mount a defense and continue to focus on his family.”

Skelos and his son, Adam, are facing federal corruption charges. A vote could come to oust Skelos on Monday.

Murphy joins a coalition of Republican lawmakers calling on Skelos to step down including Capital Region Senators Kathy Marchione and George Amedore, North Country Senators Betty Little and Patty Richie, and Sue Serino and John Bonacic of the Hudson Valley.

Senate Democrats failed in an attempt to remove Skelos last week, but pledged to try again.
