ALBANY – A total of $30 million was announced Thursday in the first round of funding for the implementation of regional sustainability plans, including the Hudson Valley that which was formulated as part of the Cleaner, Greener Communities program statewide.

The Mid-Hudson plan outlines the region’s visions, goals and objectives for a sustainable future and makes a number of recommendations, said co-chairman David Church, Orange County’s planning commissioner.

“We have to get a more efficient transportation system in the seven county region called the Mid-Hudson, and second, we have a very old, historic building stock both residentially and commercially. We have to bring efficiencies to that, particularly in energy,” Church said.

Other recommendations include materials management self-sufficiency and water quality and efficiency.
