Thirteen horses were removed from a Saratoga County farm after their owner was convicted of animal cruelty charges last month.

Duane Carpenter was convicted in March of two counts of neglect after an investigation of his Greenfield horse farm in December 2013. He now faces 12 more charges.

Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen told the Saratogian Carpenter failed to provide “proper food, water, and sustenance” to his animals during this winter’s cold weather.

A lawyer for Carpenter said he did not “intentionally harm” the animals.

Last month, Joshua Rockwood, a farmer in Schenectady County accused of failing to care for his animals, raised more than $50,000 from supporters who decried what they called government overreach.
