Hinchey Declares Victory In Race For New York's 46th State Senate District

Nov 21, 2020

Democrat Michelle Hinchey has declared victory in the race for the open seat in New York’s 46th State Senate District.

After finishing behind Republican Richard Amedure, Jr. on Election Night, a count of absentee ballots put Hinchey up 300 votes Friday.

In a statement, the daughter of the late Hudson Valley Congressman Maurice Hinchey said:

“Our world has changed immensely since we started our campaign, but that didn’t stop voters from coming out in droves to make their voices for change heard.”

If the result is certified by the New York State Board of Elections, Hinchey’s win will put Democrats one seat away from a veto-proof supermajority in the State Senate.

Republican State Senator George Amedore is retiring.

The 46th District includes Montgomery and Greene Counties, and portions of Albany, Schenectady, and Ulster Counties.
