Less than six months after a new high-speed rail line launched between Springfield, Massachusetts and New Haven, Connecticut service is being increased.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation said an additional train will be added to the Hartford Line beginning Monday.
There will be 24 daily weekday trips between Hartford and Springfield, with about half the trains continuing to New Haven.
When the new rail line launched last June, Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce President Nancy Creed predicted it would be a boon for business in both states.
"We are all struggling to find highly-qualifed skilled workers, so this will open up that pool of resources," said Creed.
Connecticut officials have been pressing Amtrak to add more cars to the trains because of overcrowding that has at times forced passengers onto buses.
