Habitat For Humanity Urges NY To Increase Housing Funds

Habitat for Humanity is urging New York lawmakers to pass legislation that would allow more funds to go to affordable housing.

The group will join with other organizations that work on housing issues Monday at the state Capitol in Albany.

The coalition is encouraging lawmakers to pass legislation that would increase a cap on funds for owner-occupied housing units. They say the current cap of $40,000 per unit hasn't kept up with the cost of construction and should be raised to $75,000.

The bill has bipartisan support in both the Senate and Assembly.
