Vermont's two top gubernatorial candidates were crisscrossing the state on the final day of the campaign and they have different messages about the economy.
Republican Phil Scott was up at 4:30 a.m. Monday to begin a 14-county sprint around Vermont on the eve of the election, while Democrat Sue Minter started in Montpelier but focused her get-out-the-vote effort in populous Chittenden County. She had been in southern Vermont during the weekend.

It’s considered a tossup race as the pair vie to replace Democratic Governor Peter Shumlin, who opted not to seek re-election this year.

Both of the candidates have been focusing on their economic message. Also running is Liberty Union candidate Bill “Spaceman” Lee.
