State and local officials gathered at the future site of the long awaited Greylock Glen Recreation and Nature Center in Adams, Massachusetts to celebrate millions in state funding Wednesday.
Governor Charlie Baker and Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito were on hand to recognize the $6.5 million that will make the 50-year-old concept a reality. Democratic State Representative John Barrett of the 1st Berkshire District has been involved in the Greylock Glen project since 1978, and compared it to the economic juggernaut of MASS MoCA in nearby North Adams.
“I honestly believe this is the single most important economic development project that's going to happen over the next 25 years in Northern Berkshire," said Barrett. "I believe that it will be the catalyst to get a lot of other things happening. And I believe because I've seen it happen before.”
Ground is expected to be broken later this year with the project completed in 2022.
