Government Center Is A Focus Of Orange County Public Hearings

There are two public hearings Monday in Orange County, and the county executive is providing additional public comment time because he expects a lot of interest.

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus says the planned December 29 public hearings focus on two local laws. One concerns the sale or lease of the county government center and the other is the Asset Forfeiture Law proposed by District Attorney David Hoovler. Storm damage from Hurricane Irene closed the government center in 2011 and legislators have been grappling with whether to renovate the building. Architect Gene Kaufman (cough-man) has offered to purchase the building for $5 million and turn it into an arts hub. The public hearings begin at 10 a.m. at Matthews Street in Goshen. Neuhaus says he will provide an additional public comment time at 6 p.m. at the Emergency Services Center, also in Goshen.
