Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker has created a task force aimed at ending chronic unemployment among minorities, veterans and people with disabilities in the Bay State.Signing an executive order during a State House press conference Thursday, Baker says the task force will hone in on employment issues concerning African Americans, Hispanics, veterans groups and people with disabilities.

“These populations continue to see barriers to job growth and employment with an average annual unemployment rate of between seven and twelve percent, despite the fact that we have an average state unemployment rate that’s under six,” said Baker.

The group includes the state’s secretaries of education, veterans’ services, economic development, health and human services, labor and workforce development and others outside of government. Recommendations are expected in November.
