New York Gov. Hochul announces "parameters of conceptual" budget deal, two weeks after deadline

GOP NYS Senator Backs Democratic Congressman

A Republican Hudson Valley lawmaker is crossing the aisle to endorse an incumbent Democrat for Congress.

Republican New York State Senator Greg Ball is endorsing Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney in the 18th congressional district race. The announcement comes with the launch of “Veterans for Maloney”, which Ball will co-chair with Democratic Port Jervis Mayor Kelly Decker. Ball, who is not seeking reelection, says, in a statement, that Maloney’s opponent, former Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, a Republican, left veterans out in the cold, voting with the extreme wing of her party. Ball also slammed Hayworth for being inaccessible during her term. Republican state Assemblyman Kieran Lalor defends Hayworth, alleging Ball’s attack is personal, saying Ball was the Republican front-runner for Congress in 2010, but when Hayworth entered the race, Ball cut out rather than face a primary. Also personal was a tweet from Ball’s spokesman about Lalor’s comments.
