Global Rally Against Monsanto Includes New Paltz

There will be a rally Saturday afternoon in New York’s Ulster County against the world’s largest provider of genetically modified seeds. The March Against Monsanto in New Paltz is one of hundreds being held across the globe.

The New Paltz rally at Peace Park begins at 2, and is organized by Hudson Valley for no GMOs, or genetically modified organisms. The march is against Missouri-based Monsanto Corporation’s genetic modification of food and certain pesticides, and is the second annual march worldwide. Meanwhile, local GMO opponents are highlighting a bill in both the New York State senate and assembly that provides for GMO food product labeling and imposes penalties for false labels and misbranding. So far, just a handful of Hudson Valley legislators are on board, including Assemblymembers Sandy Galef, Ellen Jaffee, Amy Paulin, and Frank Skartados, all Democrats.
