Genting Adds Second Casino Bid In Orange County

Christopher Chappelear

A developer with one proposed resort casino for Orange County has unveiled a second.

Genting Americas Thursday unveiled plans for a second bid for a New York State casino license, also in Orange County, making a presentation before the Montgomery Town Board, which is supporting the proposal. A Genting Americas spokesman says Resorts World Hudson Valley will provide direct access to Interstate 84 and the nearby New York State Thruway. This second proposal comes less than three weeks before a June 30 deadline for casino license bids in New York. In April, Genting announced plans for its Sterling Forest Resort in Tuxedo, garnering some opposition from area residents and a 3-2 vote from the town board in support of the proposal. There are now six proposed casino resorts for Orange County, three for Sullivan and one for Ulster.
