Garcia Peoples Will Be “One Step Behind” In Kingston

Ethan Covey

New Jersey psych-rock band Garcia Peoples describes its sound as somewhere between the Velvet Underground and the Grateful Dead. The band is coming to BSP Kingston Friday, promoting the new record “One Step Behind,” its third full-length album since 2018. Guitarist and vocalist Danny Arakaki explained to WAMC how the band came together, and how they created the gargantuan 32-minute title track on their new album.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
