Several acres of land at a former correctional facility in Orange County have been sold for use as a sports training facility.

The president of the Warwick Valley Local Development Corporation announced the sale of 36 acres of land at the Warwick Valley Office & Technology Corporate Park, the former Mid-Orange Correctional Facility. The purchaser is Tony Abbatine, founder and international director of Frozen Ropes Training Centers. The parcel in Warwick, which includes the main prison compound, sold for more than $1.7 million. Abbatine describes his vision for the property as a sports village, known as “The Yard,” and overnight summer camp. Abbatine will re-purpose the prison property's buildings to create the sports training center. Frozen Ropes owns facilities in Chester, also in Orange County; Elmsford, in Westchester County; and Albany.
