Fort Plain Mayor Thomas Quackenbush
Guilderland Police

Guilderland Police say the mayor of Fort Plain, NY has been arrested for drunk driving. In a press release Thursday, police say officers responded to an auto accident at the entrance of Pizza Gram at 2514 Western Avenue around 4:51 p.m. on December 31.

Authorities say a vehicle driven by 55-year-old Thomas Quackenbush rear-ended a stopped vehicle that was preparing to turn left toward the restaurant.

Police determined Quackenbush was intoxicated and arrested him on numerous charges including aggravated driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 0.18 or more and refusing to take a breath test. The state legal limit is 0.08.

Quackenbush was issued tickets to appear in Guilderland Town Court on January 17.

Police say both drivers received minor facial injuries. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

The village of Fort Plain is about 40 miles west of Guilderland, an Albany suburb. Quackenbush was elected mayor of the Montgomery County village in March 2017.
