Four Democrats and five Republicans are running for their party’s nomination for Vermont Lieutenant Governor. A Progressive candidate, Cris Ericson, is also running.

The Democratic primary scheduled for August has four candidates: Molly Gray, Senate Pro Tem Tim Ashe, State Senator Debbie Ingram, and 2018 gubernatorial candidate Brenda Siegel.

Former Democratic Governor Peter Shumlin, who served from 2011 to 2017, is backing Gray in the contest. Gray currently serves as an assistant state Attorney General.

In the continuation of a series of interviews on the race for Lieutenant Governor, WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley asked Shumlin about his endorsement, and whether Gray’s lack of experience as a state legislator is a disadvantage.
