The landmark former bus terminal on Main Street in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts is scheduled to be torn down beginning Monday.
The former bus station, which opened in the 1960s, will be replaced by a new $10 million office building that will be the headquarters of the non-profit housing agency Way Finders.
The demolition is expected to take 4 weeks. The new building should be finished by January 2020.
Way Finders CEO Peter Gagliardi said the project will help revitalize the neighborhood around the old bus terminal.
"We think we are part of the wave of the new Springfield," said Gagliardi last year when Way Finders announced plans to purchase the bus station building.
Springfield’s bus terminal moved to Union Station in 2017. Earlier this year, Peter Pan Bus Lines moved its corporate offices to Union Station, leaving the old Main Street building vacant.
