Former Planning Commission Leader Tim Brennan Dies

PVPC

The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission announced Friday that its former Executive Director Tim Brennan had died following a brief illness.

Brennan worked for the Springfield-based planning agency for 50 years and was its executive director for 40 years.

Commission Chairman Walter Gunn said Brennan was “a consummate gentleman and public servant to his core who will be sorely missed by the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission family and the Valley at large, after giving quite literally his entire adult life to the betterment of our region’s 43 cities and towns.”

In an interview just before his retirement last summer, Brennan talked about some of his many professional accomplishments.

A memorial service will be organized at a later today, according to the statement from the PVPC.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
