Face Mask Friday: Keeping Albany Residents Safe

Victory Christian Church

A facemask giveaway is scheduled for Friday in Albany.
Anyone who has tried knows it can be difficult securing a facemask to comply with the state order. It's even more difficult for the elderly and for people who don't have easy access to transportation. Pastor Charlie Muller of Albany's Victory Christian Church saw a need and reckoned he'd fill it.

"We purchased 5,000 facemasks that will be given out the 22nd from 3:45 to 5 in Livingston Park, Third Street Park in Albany, and then downtown we're gonna be doing it at Elizabeth Street and Morton Avenue, so right on the corners there."

The evening giveaway runs from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Muller invites anyone, especially older residents needing masks, to stop by one of the two sites.

Dave Lucas is WAMC’s Capital Region Bureau Chief. Born and raised in Albany, he’s been involved in nearly every aspect of local radio since 1981. Before joining WAMC, Dave was a reporter and anchor at WGY in Schenectady. Prior to that he hosted talk shows on WYJB and WROW, including the 1999 series of overnight radio broadcasts tracking the JonBenet Ramsey murder case with a cast of callers and characters from all over the world via the internet. In 2012, Dave received a Communicator Award of Distinction for his WAMC news story "Fail: The NYS Flood Panel," which explores whether the damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee could have been prevented or at least curbed. Dave began his radio career as a “morning personality” at WABY in Albany.
