With heightened concerns this year about voter suppression and intimidation, voting rights advocates are planning a large presence at polling places.

Earlier this year, several Springfield-based and statewide organizations formed the Springfield Election Protection Coalition.   They’ve been recruiting and training volunteers to help voters know their rights.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with one of the leaders of the Springfield Coalition, Lamont Scott, project director for MOCHA (Men of Color Health Awareness).

People who experience problems voting can call or text 866-OUR-VOTE , that’s 866-687-8683.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
