High levels of the E. coli bacteria have been detected in Laurel Lake in Lee, Massachusetts.

Lee banned swimming at the popular beach due to high levels of E. coli in the water.

The high levels were found in about 8 percent of water samples tested Tuesday, according to the Tri-Town Health Department. Health officials say the testing is done weekly throughout the summer.

Samples were taken again Wednesday, but the swimming ban hasn’t been lifted.

The beach is still open.
