The U.S. Coast Guard was at the Port of Albany Wednesday, a day after the Dutch Apple tour boat crashed into the U.S.S. Slater.
Late Tuesday afternoon, the Dutch Apple was carrying about 50 sightseers when strong winds pushed the boat into the museum ship, which is permanently docked in Albany. No one was hurt. The Slater's Tim Rizzuto calls it a "non-event," saying the smaller ship hit the Slater's stern and got stuck on a depth charge rack.
"That kept the Dutch Apple away from our hull and the only damage was one little bent pipe on the depth charge rack."
Rizzuto says two Coast Guard members from the New York sector investigated.
"They did a thorough check-out of the Dutch Apple and everything is fine and they're back to operating business as usual."
