Donna McKechnie remembers "Same Place: Another Time" at Club Helsinki

Club Helsinki in Hudson, New York could hardly have found a better torchbearer for its Helsinki on Broadway series, which continues this Sunday, March 24 with a legend of the stage, Donna McKechnie and her new cabaret show, “Same Place: Another Time.”

Best known for her Tony-winning and iconic role of Cassie in A Chorus Line, McKechnie is now touring her new show, which is about New York City in the 1970s and features songs from figures as varied as Jim Croce, Peter Allen, and Stephen Sondheim. She will also remember Marvin Hamlisch, a friend and collaborator dating back to A Chorus Line who died last year.

No stranger to the WAMC listening area— McKechnie starred in Williamstown Theater Festival’s Ten Cents a Dance two summers back — has also appeared on Broadway in State Fair, On the Town, Company, Promises, and How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, in addition to several credits on the screen.

A lifelong resident of the Capital Region, Ian joined WAMC in late 2008 and became news director in 2013. He began working on Morning Edition and has produced The Capitol Connection, Congressional Corner, and several other WAMC programs. Ian can also be heard as the host of the WAMC News Podcast and on The Roundtable and various newscasts. Ian holds a BA in English and journalism and an MA in English, both from the University at Albany, where he has taught journalism since 2013.
