County Program Provides $1.2M For Local Community Improvements

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded the county nearly 1-point-2 million dollars under the Community Development Block Grant Program.

The money will fund several projects, including more than 142-thousand dollars for various infrastructure improvement projects in the City of Beacon's Capital Plan including road reconstruction, sidewalks improvement and drainage projects.

The Village of Tivoli will get $100,000 to replace sidewalks in five key locations
 
The Villages of Pawling and Fishkill along with the towns of Wappinger, Pleasant Valley and Rhinebeck each will receive $100-thousand dollars for Handicapped Accessibility Projects.

Dutchess County Legislature Chairman Robert Rolison says “The Community Development Block Grant program enables important projects that really make a difference in residents’ lives to become a reality.” CDBG funding is administered by the Dutchess County Department of Planning and Development.

Dave Lucas is WAMC’s Capital Region Bureau Chief. Born and raised in Albany, he’s been involved in nearly every aspect of local radio since 1981. Before joining WAMC, Dave was a reporter and anchor at WGY in Schenectady. Prior to that he hosted talk shows on WYJB and WROW, including the 1999 series of overnight radio broadcasts tracking the JonBenet Ramsey murder case with a cast of callers and characters from all over the world via the internet. In 2012, Dave received a Communicator Award of Distinction for his WAMC news story "Fail: The NYS Flood Panel," which explores whether the damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee could have been prevented or at least curbed. Dave began his radio career as a “morning personality” at WABY in Albany.
