County Legislators Ask Federal Agency For One Month Extension

In New York, Westchester legislators are asking a federal agency for more time before the agency takes away more than $7 million in funding for the county.

Westchester County Board of Legislators Chairman Ken Jenkins, a Democrat, has requested a month-long extension from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the county to respond to issues regarding alleged non-compliance with a 2009 fair and affordable housing settlement. The request comes to prevent HUD’s threatened reallocation of $7.4 million in Community Development Block Grant funds. County Executive Rob Astorino, a Republican, had requested a hearing with HUD over the matter, alleging the agency is going beyond the terms of the settlement agreement. He had also requested that the Board of Legislators authorize the county attorney to file a lawsuit and injunction against HUD.
