Former Albany Councilman Corey Ellis won a three-way race for Albany Common Council President in the Democratic primary yesterday.

According to unofficial Albany County Board of Election results, Ellis defeated Albany County legislator Chris Higgins and Councilman Mark Robinson with 51 percent of the vote.

"I'm just proud tonight that were able to bring people together and we are going to continue the work the mayor started and I'm proud to be a part of helping my hometown continue to grow that we need to grow. So it is about the people for me," said Ellis.

Ten of the 15 council seats also faced Democratic primaries yesterday.
