Family Court Judge Margaret “Peggy” Walsh has lost her bid to run for New York state Supreme Court in the 3rd Judicial District to the Democratic party-backed candidate, county legislator Justin Corcoran.
The Times Union reports the Democratic convention vote among delegates from the seven-county district was 44-29 in favor of Corcoran, a practicing attorney and county legislator from Albany's 9th Legislative District. Corcoran was backed by Albany County Democratic Chairman Matthew Clyne and won in spite of a challenge by Walsh that had the backing of several Democrats, including Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan.
After his nomination, Corcoran appealed for party unity. Republicans backed New Baltimore attorney Lisa Fisher to run against Corcoran in November's general election.
