A petition to overturn results of the troubled February 9th high school vote in Albany has been denied.
State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia has upheld the results of the vote on a $180 million renovation plan for Albany High. The vote, run by the district, was stained by problems including confusion over polling places, many of which opened late or were not prepared to service voters, and a shortage of ballots. It was held after voters in November narrowly rejected a $196 million plan for the school.
Elia ruled that despite “irregularities,” not enough evidence was presented to force a third vote.
Albany County Comptroller Mike Conners, a critic of the project, says expect a lawsuit to be filed challenging the decision.
