College Announces Bachelor’s Degree In Nursing Program

Siena College has taken the wraps off a new bachelor's degree in nursing program.

The Baldwin Nursing Program is a first for Siena, created to meet growing hospital demand for registered nurses to earn bachelor's degrees. Lisa Flack is directing the new initiative.

"Hospitals are now preferentially hiring at a rate of 77 percent in New York state, actually, bachelor's prepared nurses. And what research has really shown is that nurses that are educated at the bachelor's level have better patient outcomes, lower patient mortalities."

The two-year program at the Loudonville college begins for 16 students in the fall, with on-campus classes to be held Wednesdays. One-third of course requirements will be completed online.
