The city of Cohoes in Albany County is pausing to remember its former mayor.

George Primeau Sr. died after a battle with cancer at 62 over the weekend. The Democrat served as mayor of the Spindle City for three years and worked for the city for 24 altogether. He stepped aside in 2015.

“After deep soul-searching and family discussions, I believe this is the right thing to do,” Primeau said in March 2015.

Primeau’s nephew, current mayor Shawn Morse, announced Tuesday’s common council meeting is being postponed until Thursday. Funeral services for Primeau will be at Holy Trinity Parish in Cohoes at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Visitation is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
