Environmental activists in western Massachusetts are hailing an announcement from the office of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno.
Funds have been included in the next city budget for a full-time city employee to focus on environmental initiatives. Activists had been lobbying for several years for the largest city in the region to hire a “sustainability officer.” WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Springfield City Councilor Jesse Lederman, who chairs the council’s Green Committee.
