wikipedia.org

Voters in Cheshire, Massachusetts will decide Wednesday whether to approve a budget override needed to fund the town’s portion of the regional school district. With a turnout of 18 percent in June Cheshire voters defeated an override measure needed to fund the town’s $2.6 million portion of the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District’s budget. The town and the district decided to seek another vote holding two informational meetings on the measure in July. Kristen Gordon is district superintendent.

“I do think the phrase ‘Proposition 2 ½ override scares people,” Gordon said. “People struggle financially right now everywhere and particularly in our two communities. That for many people is the forever tax increase.”

The town’s assessment for the school’s budget is $90,000 over its levy limit. Polls at the Cheshire Community Center are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
