Burlington's Electronic Scooter Pilot Program On Hold

A Vermont city has put an electric scooter pilot program on hold because state lawmakers want more clarity on regulations.
Burlington City Council member Max Tracy says state lawmakers want to know where riders will be allowed to go, how scooters will be classified on roads and if a curfew will be implemented to prevent drunken scootering at night.

There's also been discussion over whether riders should be required to wear helmets.

Tracy tells WCAX-TV a helmet requirement may prevent injuries that other communities have seen, but it could also create a barrier to using the scooters.

Tracy says Burlington will keep looking at getting electronic scooters in the city.

Gotcha Bike Services is lending 200 electronic bikes to Burlington in August or September.
