The Berkshire Regional Transit Authority has avoided a strike, as union representatives and their employers struck a tentative contract agreement Wednesday.

Paratransit Management of the Berkshires, which has operated the BRTA’s bus service since July 2016, put forward a final offer to its drivers Wednesday afternoon. The deal was enough to convince the union representatives to hold off a strike planned for Thursday. The paratransit drivers will vote on the offer Friday. If it’s rejected, a strike could still happen, likely next week.

Paratransit Management says the deal on the table is its best offer, and its fate is in the hands of the 35 unionized employees of the BRTA. A strike would disrupt all bussing services in the county.
