As it faces power outages, store closures, and financial strains, the Berkshire Mall in Lanesborough, Massachusetts, continues to face an uncertain future. But to some entrepreneurs, the ample empty space in the 700,000-square foot retail center is a beacon. Lev Kelman is the founder of Brooklyn Dark, a New York City-based hemp chocolate company. He’s eyeing the Berkshire Mall for a new cannabis undertaking that’s gotten the attention of Lanesborough’s select board, and shared his vision for it with WAMC.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
