Bill Owens: Another Debate, Another Win For HRC

As we all watched and waited, we tried to guess would he apologize, would he be believable, will he implode? The apology was weak and unconvincing and the excuse of it being lock room banter was in exceptionally poor judgement.

The snorting was there again; another bad mic? His hovering over her was very odd and  appeared to re-enforce his creepy approach to women generally. The continued interruptions furthered the impression of someone lacking self discipline.

The three women he brought to unhinge Hilary and Bill didn't work. He admitted that he took the $916m deduction and avoided taxes and would never say he didn't pay federal income tax, trying to parse the issue in a manner unintelligible to other than tax lawyers and CPA's.

He missed an opportunity to be inclusive with the Muslim women and black man who posed questions late in the debate. He lied on the Iraq issue, yet again.

The biggest surprises were his statement that he hadn't talked to Mike Pence on Syria and disagreed with him on what needed to be done; and his assertion that he would appoint a special prosecutor to look into the emails, yet again. A threat to abuse the justice system sounds like a typical dictator or demagogue. I can't imagine a more disqualifying statement.

Hillary appeared controlled (a good and bad trait) and disciplined. She answered with substance in comparison to the idle and some what unintelligible verbiage he uses constantly. She stumbled where she has in the past, no surprises.

Most of what was said was a rehash of both of their positions with little additional insight.

My view: it was a close to a wash, but he needed a win and he didn't come close. Hillary prevailed be because she remained presidential.

Mr. Owens is a former member of Congress representing the New York 21st and a Senior Advisor to Dentons.
