Bike Trail Tunnel Opens In Northampton

WAMC

State and local officials participated last week in the opening of a new $4.4 million railroad underpass linking heavily-used bike trails in Northampton, Massachusetts.

The city, also, was awarded a $400,000 grant by the state to address climate change vulnerability.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Northampton Mayor David Narkewicz. He explained the significance of the new tunnel connecting bike trails once-separated by railroad tracks used by high-speed trains.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
