Big E Opens Friday With Eye On Next Year's Centennial

ESE

The 5th largest fair in North America opens its gates to the public this Friday morning in western Massachusetts.  The Eastern States Exposition, the Big E, is counting down to its centennial year in 2016.  The Big E has experienced record-setting attendance during its 17-day annual run since Gene Cassidy became president of the Eastern States Exposition in 2012.  WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Cassidy at the fairgrounds in West Springfield.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
